Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of early childhood educators who are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in early childhood education and care services. In doing so they work to implement an approved learning framework within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard.

They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other staff.Under the Education and Care Services National Law (2011) the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) publishes lists of approved early childhood education and care qualifications and information regarding regulatory requirements here: www.acecqa.gov.au.

Format and Packaging Rules

  • 23 core units
  • 5 elective units, of which:
  • at least 2 must be selected from the elective units listed below
  • up to 3 units may be selected from any endorsed Training Packages or accredited courses relevant to the work outcome
All electives chosen must contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.​

ENTRY FOR THIS COURSE

Whilst there are no entry requirements stipulated in the training package (CHC), ICV requires its participants to meet the following criteria:

  • Successful completion of ICV Language, Literacy and Numeracy Test, ICV will conduct LLN entry test at the time of enrolment. The student must obtain ACSF3 Level in LLN to enrol in this qualification.
  • Moderate level of computer literacy required
  • Candidates must be aged 18 or older

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)

Prospective students can apply for recognition of their existing skills and knowledge that is relevant to the units of competence within the program. These skills and knowledge may have been obtained through workplace training or experience and may reduce the number of units required to be completed during the qualification. Students are recommended to notify ICV of their interest or intention to apply for RPL prior to their enrolment.

Also, students MUST obtain a Working with Children Check before commencing workplacement.

​This qualification has employability skills. Participants may find employment in childhood educator roles, childhood care roles and in management roles within this industry that require an early childhood education & care qualification.
